1985
Discovery of Buckminsterfullerene
Sean O’Brien, Richard Smalley, Robert Curl, Harry Kroto, and James Heath at Rice University discovered C60. Named buckminsterfullerene after Buckminster Fuller, its geodesic soccer-ball structure gave clues to its remarkable properties. Some call it “star dust”, others call it a “Bucky Ball”.
1996
Nobel Prize in Chemistry Awarded
Smalley, Curl, and Kroto were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The discovery of C60 (Carbon 60) opened doors across pure chemistry, material science, nanotechnology, and health and wellness.

2010–2011
Ken Swartz, MS Begins Studying C60
Ken Swartz, MS begins researching the health benefits of Carbon 60 while working on a MOXY fusion project. He theorizes that C60 may protect his team from radiation exposure in a testing laboratory environment. Ken and research associates start experimenting with C60 as a radiation protectant and to their surprise, they notice and experience transformational health benefits after consistently taking C60 for longer than six months.
C60 also proved to be effective in helping the team neutralize any oxidative stress and damage they were exposed to from radiation exposure.
2012
The Landmark Baati Study
Tarek Baati and colleagues at the University of Paris-Sud published a peer-reviewed study in Biomaterials examining C60 dissolved in olive oil — a foundational reference point for the C60 supplement field.
2016

Ken Swartz, MS, begins selling C60 products made with non-inflammatory oils and Carbon 60. Jessica MacNaughton Joins as Co-Founder and Ken Swartz is Chief Science Officer
After her own health transformation with Carbon 60 in 2017, Jessica and Ken join forces to bring C60 Power to the masses — expanding product offerings and growing the brand’s community. The company is restructured and evolves from its humble beginnings in a basement and a garage, to a start-up ecommerce company with manufacturing in an FDA compliant facility, with cGMP standards. The company focuses on offering the purest C60 available for people and pets – 99.99% pure, sublimated C60 – made with organic carrier oils, delivered in amber glass and miron glass bottles (to ensure no microplastics are introduced to the products), and shipped in recyclable and reusable boxes, and implements third-party testing on all products – setting a high bar and new standard in the C60 industry.

C60 Purple Power Is Rebranded as C60 Power
Jessica and Ken restructure the company and evolve the brand. C60 Power is born — reflecting the mission to power the health of people and animals everywhere. Jessica is CEO and Co-Founder and Ken serves as Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus. National C60 Day is established on October 9th to honor the discovery of C60 and the scientific team who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry decades ago.
2022
C60 Announces New Products: C60 Gummies, C60 Horsepower, and C60 Skin (Anti-Aging Line)
C60 Power announces the creation and launch of several new products to its premium line-up of C60 products including C60 Tart Cherry Gummies (available in regular and sugar free); C60 MCT Coconut flavored oils – including cinnamon, peppermint, and orange; C60 Horse Power – a popular product with the equestrian community; and the C60 Anti-Aging Skincare line – including C60 Youth Renewal Eye cream (made with C60 and copper peptides), C60 Anti-Gravity Serum, C60 Skin, and C60 Sexy (an edible massage oil).

THE SCIENCE BEHIND C60
The Most Powerful Antioxidant Ever Discovered
The Nobel Prize winning molecule, Carbon 60, has been characterized as the most powerful antioxidant ever discovered. Its unique structure allows it to reset itself again and again – it does not negatively interact with other vitamins, medicines, or supplements, and it is not toxic at any level.
Carbon 60, formally known as buckminsterfullerene, or a “buckyball” is a molecule composed of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a hollow, spherical structure resembling a cage-like soccer ball. C60 works at the cellular level — acting as a “free radical sponge” to neutralize toxic free radicals and combat oxidative stress and aging. Ken earned his Master of Science from the University of Colorado at Denver and a B.S. in Economics from Arizona State University. He spent the early part of his career as a secondary school teacher, passionate about helping and educating people. He first encountered C60 while leading the MOXY fusion reactor project, using it as a radiation protectant. About eight months in, at a routine optometrist visit, Ken discovered his age-related vision issue had resolved — an outcome his doctor had never seen. Moved by this experience, Ken dedicated himself to C60 research and founded C60 Purple Power in 2016.

Jessica holds an Executive MBA and B.A. in Communications from the University of Denver. Her background spans 18 years in commercial real estate and 25 years in corporate America — from Fortune 200 and 500 companies and various entrepreneurial ventures — her expertise spans operations, sales, marketing, research and business development. In 2017, a significant burnout event forced her to refocus on her health. That same year, she met Ken Swartz and was introduced to Carbon 60. After six months, her energy and mental clarity had sharpened substantially. She joined forces with Ken in 2018 to bring C60 into mainstream consciousness and to establish the highest standards for the C60 industry. In 2025 was named among the Top 20 Women Leading Biohacking & Longevity by MSN.
